Clos Pegase Winery Napa Valley
Passion, effort, and experience will always pay off in the long run with any job or hobby that you are involved in. If you put in the time and effort, you will learn from your mistakes and gain experience. But its the passion and love for what you do that helps you gain respect and a following. This is where Clos Pegase Winery proves themselves as one of the best wineries in Napa Valley because of their consistent quality and Heavenly flavors of their wines year after year. Clos Pegase Winery started their quest for great wines in 1983 with 50 acres of vine in Napa Valley and they now have almost 500 acres of vine around the Napa and Carneros regions. I love visiting this winery because of the world class wine tours, barrel room, wine tastings, architecture, landscaping, and heritage gardens. I just recently quaffed 3 different Clos Pegase wines and I am not the type who can keep a secret. Here are the 3 wines I did experience and can no longer hold back my excitement and revelations:
Pegaso Red Blend Napa Valley 2014 – Violet in the glass with a purple hue on the rim. Tempting aroma’s of dark berries, blackberry jam, anise, earth, and exotic spices. Full bodied across the palate, robust, with an integrated tannin structure. Generous flavors of rich dark berries, cassis, damp earth, anise, and zesty spices. Complex, dense, and bold! The next sip brought about more dark berry jam flavors with hints of dark chocolate and the essence of rare red meat. A beautiful red blend with grippy tannins and I would recommend decanting this wine before drinking to capture the most desirable flavors. Pair with grilled red meats, Filet Mignon, pasta with tomato sauce, and strong cheeses. 93 Points and $40 average a bottle. Drink now (decant) or age til 2025.
Clos Pegase “Hommage” Chardonnay 2014 – Straw colored in the glass with edges flecked with gold! Tantalizing aroma’s of ripe apricot, green apple, fresh baked brioche, and caramel. Medium to full bodied mouth-feel, velvety, with a nice balance of acidity and fruit. Delightful flavors of rich red pear, apricot, melon, peach pit, and tropical spices. The flavors are exactly what you would want in a Chardonnay from the Carneros region! On the second taste, flavors of bright apple with hints of hazelnut and caramel lead into a wonderful vanilla oak finish. A beautiful integration of Old World and New World styles with its ripe California fruit but a slight French minerality. Pair with baked chicken or pork, grilled salmon, pasta with cream based sauces, and medium to strong cheeses. 92 Points and $35 a bottle average. Drink now through 2022.
Syrah Napa Valley 2014 – Deep garnet color in the glass, dense and inky. Euphoric aroma’s of blueberry pie, stewed plums, black pepper, and electric purple violets! Full bodied across the palate, graceful plush tannins, and bold black fruits. Celestial flavors of blackberry jam, ripe blueberries, mocha, and enticing spices. Concentrated, layered, and impressively decadent! Already addicted, the second sip delivered more rich dark berries, black pepper, hints of anise, and a long, elegant, spicy oak finish. Very smooth and sophisticated. If this was the jungle, then this wine would be the “Lions Roar” of Syrah’s! Pair with slow roasted barbecue pork, Filet Mignon, savory red meats, Beef Linguine Pasta with Parmesan and Basil, smoked seitan steaks (vegetarian), and strong cheeses. 95 Points and $40 average a bottle. Drink now (decant) or age til 2024.
These are beautiful wines that pair well with food and life so enjoy them today and cheers to the good life! Winesplashing!!
