Zenato Valpolicella Ripassa Superiore DOC

img_20170207_173456091Wonderfully rich and not for the faint of palate. The method of “ripasso” means to “re-pass” Valpolicella wine through dried Amarone grape skins to cause a second alcoholic fermentation. This method increases the alcohol level and the Valpolicella wine becomes richer in color, more fragrant, and definitely more lush in body.

The Zenato Valpolicella is a unique Italian blend of 85% Corvina, 10% Rondinella, and 5% Oseleta. In the glass, deep ruby red in color and mysterious. Intense aroma’s of black plums, blackberries, leather, and spice on the nose. Full bodied across the palate, velvety, with noticeable grippy tannins. Extraordinary flavors of blackberry jam, lush black currants, espresso, and baking spices. Very concentrated and layered. On the second sip, more dark fruits came through along with notes of cherry, fig, and tobacco. The finish was exceptional with complex, elegant tannins.

I love this style of wine because it is so unique and the ripasso method of winemaking adds so much flavor and complexity to the wine. It truly is amazing! Pair this wine with red game meats, lamb, risotto, beef dishes, and medium to strong cheeses. 95 Points! Average of $26 a bottle. WineSplashing!!
