Cuvaison Prince & Pedro Red Blend Brandlin Vineyard

I have always loved experiencing red blend wines because I feel it expresses what the winemaker thought was the best wine possible with the grapes they had available. To me, these blended wines are the “Winemaker’s Signature” since they adapted the wine to the flavors they enjoy. Today I am sipping the Cuvaison “Prince & Pedro” Red Blend Brandlin Vineyard 2017 from the Mt Veeder region of Napa Valley. The label on the bottle celebrates the days of the stagecoach team of Prince & Pedro who hauled people, mail, and of course the occasional wine barrel over the mountains of Napa Valley. This is a California red blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Merlot and it packs a jammy punch in flavor!

In my glass, deep violet in color and very opaque. Intoxicating aromas of stewed plum, blackberry, tobacco, graphite, oak, and bakers spices. Full bodied across the palate, very lush and velvety with noticeable elegant tannins. Robust flavors of blackberry jam, plum, ripe black cherry, mocha, and bakers spices. Very concentrated with exotic flavors interwoven with medium tannins that display balance and elegance. On the following sip, more lush dark berry came through with hints of blackcurrant and tobacco leading to a graceful vanilla oak finish. This delicious red blend can be enjoyed on its own or paired with some of your favorite foods like beef, lamb, barbecue chicken, Portobello Mushroom Burger, pasta with tomato sauce, and medium to strong cheeses. 93 Points! (Wine Splash).
