Italy is known for making some fantastic, classic wines that make you long for them again and again. Wines that are sophisticated with unique flavors that are distinct only to Italy and known for their quality. The Brunello di Montalcino wines are one of these classics. All Brunello wines are made from 100% Sangiovese grapes and they all carry the highest DOCG classification for quality. The Brunello is known for having thicker skinned berries that produces wines with remarkably bold fruit flavors and higher tannins and acidity. This makes Brunello wines very age worthy with many wines reaching perfection after 10 years or more in the cellar. Today I am enjoying the 2015 Tenuta Friggiali Brunello di Montalcino DOCG which is made from 100% Sangiovese and the Sangiovese grape is what Italy is best known for.

In my glass, rich ruby red in color. Inviting aromas of bright red berry, cherry, violets, earth, and spice. Medium bodied with grippy tannins and a noticeable acidity. Bold with alluring flavors of ripe red cherry, dried cranberry, fig, leather, and lovely spices. Beautifully vibrant and a nice balance between the high acidity and refined tannins. The following sip accented the teasing red berry flavors and intermingling notes of tart cranberry, tilled soil, and hazelnut leading to a long, spicy oak finish. This is an exquisite wine with rustic sophistication where the flavors identify it as being purely from Italy. The Tenuta Friggiali Brunello di Montalcino would be perfect with foods like grilled steak, Mustard Beef Tenderloin, lamb chops, venison, pizza with mushrooms, grilled vegetables, and medium to strong cheeses. 93 Points!
