Jean Biecher & Fils Crémant d’Alsace Sparkling Brut

Being a huge fan of sparkling wine, I enjoy finding bubblies from around the world in unique places. Now Alsace, France is not an odd place to find great wines or even sparkling wines but I don’t see them at the store as often as I come across Champagne. Many regions of France use the designation “crémant” for a sparkling wine that is not from the Champagne region but is produced using similar techniques as the Champagne method of making sparkling wine. Crémants have excellent quality like Champagne but usually at a lower price. The Alsace region is in the eastern part of France in the foothills of the Vosges Mountains near Germany.  Today I am sampling Jean Biecher & Fils Crémant d’Alsace Sparkling Brut and the Biecher family has been producing wine for generations since 1762. They are well known for producing wonderful organic wines although this wine is not listed as being completely organic. It is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and spent time in a French oak barrel before bottling.

In my glass, day bright in color and some very intense bubbles. On the nose, aromas of lemon zest, apple, pear, ginger, vanilla, and brioche. Very lively bubbles across the palate, medium bodied, and a pleasurable acidity. Invigorating flavors of fresh lemon, yellow apple, young pineapple, salty pretzel, and mineral. Wonderfully flavorful and racy and the effervescence is very persistent! My palate is exhilarated and awake for my next sip which brings more citrus flavors, pear, bread, with hints of honey and ginger leading to a lively vanilla oak finish! This is a deliciously tasty sparkling wine that embodies the party in the bottle! Fun, delectable, and festive for your soirée or holiday get-together like the 4th of July! Perfect pairing for charcuterie, appetizers, seafood, shellfish, chicken, Margherita pizza, summer salads, and medium cheeses. 93 Points! (Wine Splash).
