Mazal Barrica Toro Tempranillo

The Tempranillo grape is the main red grape variety of Spain and is what puts them on the map when talking wine! This is the Mazal Barrica Toro Tempranillo 2013 and all grown and produced by Bodega Vinaguarena on the banks of the Guarena River in Northwest Spain. This Tempranillo spent 6 months in French and American oak casks and has a 14.5% alcohol percentage.

In my glass, cherry red in color with a violet rim and clear. Very aromatic with the nose of red berry fruits, tobacco, mocha, exotic spices and herbs. Medium bodied across the palate with bright acidity and noticeable tannins. Bold flavors of ripe raspberry, red cherry, blackberry, pipe tobacco, and a slight earthiness. Complex and showing many fruity and rustic layers! On the next sip, the cherry flavors continued with notes of toffee, smoke, and balsamic herbs leading to a long, spicy oak finish. Very fruity and juicy but with lots of herbs, spice, and earth to balance out the intense flavors! You can enjoy this wine on its own but we paired it with Spaghetti Squash with a tomato meat sauce which was amazing! (tomato sauce with ground beef and mild sausage). Also pair it with smoky bbq meats, pulled pork, tacos, pizza, and medium cheeses. 89 Points! (Wine Splash).
