Calla Lily Audax Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
In Latin, the word “Audax” means to be “bold and daring” but the word also refers to a long distance cycling event. So in wine terms, this could be a bold and daring wine in style and flavor but with a long distance finish! The grapes for this epic 2014 red wine came from a 95 acre vineyard on Howell Mountain in Napa Valley from the talented winemaker Cary Gott. It is a blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc and spent 27 months in 50% new French oak.
In my glass, deep ruby purple in color with violet reflections. Alluring aroma’s of blackberry jam, plum, olives, and smoke. Full bodied, lush, with medium tannins and balanced acidity. Tastefully elegant with flavors of ripe blackberry, black cherry, vanilla, and exotic spices. This wine is truly poetry in a glass! The following taste brought out more blackberry with notes of plum, herbs, and espresso leading to a graceful mocha oak finish. Multi-dimensional in flavor with lots of dark fruit and intoxicating spices! The 2014 Calla Lily Audax is not only sophisticated and refined, it can be the life of the party too so let it loose! Pair with Roasted Lamb Shank with Garlic and Rosemary, grilled red meat, Blue Cheese Burgers, pasta with a meat tomato sauce, Goat Cheese and Olive Bruschetta, and stronger cheeses. Beautifully impressive. 95 Points! (Wine Splash).
