Castillon-Cotes de Bordeaux 2016 Chateau Castegens

Chateau Castegens has historical roots dating back to 1453 with an awe inspiring castle and a beautiful vineyard. Superb wines are still being produced to this day like this inviting red blend of 80% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon! In my glass, deep ruby red in color. Aromas of ripe plum, cranberry, tobacco, and oak. Medium to full bodied across the palate with noticeable tannins. Flavors of lush red berries, plums, clove, and tobacco. On the second sip, more bright plum flavors came through with notes of mocha and earth leading to a long, French Oak finish. Layered and a bit feisty with good acidity. Pair with Grilled Chicken, pork, red meats, pasta with tomato sauce, baked eggplant, and medium to sharp cheeses. 93 Points! (Wine Splash).
