Daou Vineyards Pessimist Red Blend 2017
It’s hard to be a pessimist with such an outstanding wine enhancing my glass! I guess a pessimist never really has a disappointing day but how could you with a soulfully uplifting wine massaging all my senses. Yes, I am speaking of Daou Vineyards “Pessimist” Red Blend which is predominately Petite Sirah, Syrah, and Zinfandel from Paso Robles and Central Coast areas. Beautifully interwoven, layered, and velvety lush. It’s truly cosmic!
In my glass, inky violet in color that is even more mesmerizing with some lively swirling. Intoxicating aroma’s of ripe plums, stewed dark berries, blueberry pie, and leather. Full bodied across the palate with a luxurious structure and medium tannins. Flavors of savory blackberry jam, ripe black cherry, bakers spices, and vanilla. Lingering flavors that continually evolve layer upon layer. On the second sip, more lush dark berries are revealed, cocoa, and hints of truffle and pipe tobacco leading to a long fruit and spicy oak finish. Elegant and teasingly Seductive! I paired this wine with a grilled steak with a mushroom sauce, baked sweet potato fries, and a fresh salad. But this beautiful red blend would also pair with any grilled red meat, beef roast, tomato based pastas, and medium to strong cheeses. This is an amazing wine at a great price and definitely not to be missed. Average of about $22 a bottle. 94 Points! (Wine Splash).
