Kirrihill Regional Selection Shiraz 2015

If you mention wine and the country of Australia, you immediately think of sipping some excellent Shiraz! The Shiraz grape is also known as Syrah in other parts of the world but the flavors can taste completely different because of climate, terroir, and wine making techniques. But today, how about a tour of Australia for your taste buds?  This Kirrihill Shiraz from Clare Valley, Australia gives the perfect example of what a fantastic Shiraz should be like! In my glass, dark ruby in color with violet hues. Enticing bouquet of ripe dark berries, anise, black pepper, and oak. Full bodied across the palate, smooth, with medium tannins. Bold flavors of lush blackberries, dark fruits, black pepper spice, and hints of cedar. The second sip showed more blackberry fruit, with soft hints of nutmeg and earth leading to a long, spicy finish. Exquisitely balanced and structured with abundant fruit and fine tannins. Pair with grilled meats, rich charcuterie, pasta with zesty tomato sauce, and medium to sharp cheeses. 93 Points!
