Vidal-Fleury Cotes du Rhone Blend

Vidal-Fleury is the oldest continuously operating winery in the Rhône region and was established in 1781. Even Thomas Jefferson made a stop at Vidal-Fleury on his trip to France in 1787. So it shouldn’t surprise me that amazing wines continue to be produced from this very dependable winery! This plush 2013 Cotes du Rhone is a blend of 65% Grenache which harmonizes with 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and 5% Carignan. In the glass, ruby in color with a garnet rim. A rich nose of dark berries, stewed plums, cocoa, and pepper. Medium to full bodied, smooth, with a distinct tannin structure.  Flavors of ripe black fruits, black cherry, chocolate, and pepper spices intermingle beautifully. Very juicy, savory, and layered. On the second sip, more dark fruits were pronounced followed by hints of strawberries and violets. All these flavor fireworks lead to a long, lively, and lingering finish. A refined and polished wine that is delightful and full of flavor! Pair with steak, lamb, grilled white meats, pizza, barbecue, pasta with tomato sauce and medium style cheeses. 92 Points and average of $15 a bottle. WineSplashing!!
