Veritas Winery Vintners Reserve Red Blend 2012
From the Monticello AVA region of Virginia comes a red blend that is sure to impress any self proclaimed wine experts that may stop in for a visit. A blend of 40% Petit Verdot, 40% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Malbec that spent 18 months in newer French oak barrels. Many exciting wines are now coming from this region and this is definitely one of them!
In the glass, deep ruby red, almost violet in color. A seductive nose that tempts you with aroma’s of black cherry, cassis, mocha, and cigar box. Full bodied across the palate with medium, silky tannins. Flavors of ripe blackberries, currants, chocolate cherries, and anise flirt with the senses. Much more satisfying than licking the spoon from moms chocolate cake batter! (Do I have your attention now?). On the second sip, more dark berry flavors were pronounced with hints of caramel leading to a long, vanilla oak finish. Complex, layered, but sophisticated. Pleasant, assertive tannins but nicely balanced with the fruit. Pair with grilled steak, venison, lamb, pasta with red meat sauces, and medium to strong cheeses. If you have a 2012 vintage of this wine, it is good from now til 2020. 90 Points and 7 STAR ratings. Average of $35 a bottle. WineSplashing!!
