Thirty Bench Small Lot Cabernet Franc 2012 Beamsville Bench VQA
This was a night of celebration and sorrow. Celebration because this is an amazing, quality wine that I have been looking forward to opening and rejoicing in! Sorrow because it was my last bottle of Thirty Bench Cabernet Franc 2012 and the winery is sold out. Hope and patience that upcoming vintages will be available soon, but for now, I am lingering in flavor Heaven! Emma Garner is the exceptional winemaker at Thirty Bench Winery who works hard at making all her wines magical. In 2015, Emma won Winemaker of the Year award at the Ontario Wine Awards so more great wines are to follow.
In the glass, this Cabernet Franc is bright violet to almost inky in color. The nose is intoxicating with aromas of blackberry pie, black raspberry, tobacco, cigar box, and fresh baking spices. I almost want to stop here and just make an enticing candle from these amazing aromas. Total Euphoria! Across the palate, this Cab Franc is full bodied, rich, with robust yet elegant tannins. Alluring flavors of ripe blackberries, red currant, earth, and hints of black pepper spice. On the second sip, more red berry came through with notes of tobacco leading to a long, firm vanilla oak finish. Complex with layers and layers of delightful flavors. Exceptional and delicious! Pair with game dishes, grilled red meats, robust chili, pasta with tomato meat sauces, and medium to sharp cheeses. If you have a bottle of this 2012 Thirty Bench Cabernet Franc, you can drink now through 2022. 9 STAR and 96 Points! Average of $40 a bottle. WineSplashing!!
