The Prisoner “Saldo” Red Zinfandel
Saldo Red Zinfandel is from the “Prisoner” family of wines but THIS Prisoner is now out on good behavior. An amazing wine with a truly arresting flavor. Tonight, there was a “break out” of our wine cellar and we were the beneficiaries of this excellent wine! An enticing blend of several red Zinfandel’s from elite vineyards in Northern California. In the glass, garnet color and as deep as ink. Ravishing nose of plum, dark berry, and sweet cloves. On the palate, full bodied, smooth, and rich with guilty pleasures. Robust Flavors of black cherries, ripe blackberries, and spicy dark chocolate. But the jury was still out on this Zinfandel until the second sip where more rich dark berry came through with notes of blackberry jam and vanilla on the long, creamy finish. Hedonistic, persistent, with smooth tannins. Pair with beef, barbecue pork ribs, leg of lamb, medium cheeses, and heartier meals. For the vegetarian, pair with a Roasted Beet Salad, vegetarian Moussaka, and many Mexican dishes. I am truly guilty of loving this wine and recommend you apprehend the Prisoner Saldo Zinfandel yourself! 8 STAR and 92 Points! Average of $30 a bottle. WineSplashing!!
