De Trafford Blueprint Shiraz
Touring the world through wine is an experience that is always exciting and changing. And it gets more exciting when that path runs through South Africa! If you are new to the wine world, South African wine seems mysterious but you will soon find that it has some excellent, vibrant wines! This fantastic Shiraz from De Trafford is truly a “Blueprint” of what many rich red wines could be when climate, soil, and the right wine making techniques come together all at once!
In the glass, deep red in color and opaque. Aroma’s of dark berry jam, plum, cocoa, and spice! Rich in body across the palate, intense, but with a sense of elegance. Provocative flavors of ripe blackberries, blueberries, earth, black pepper, and oak. Like a frenzied ping pong match between food and earthly flavors! On the second sip, lush flavors of black cherry, chocolate, and spice came through to a long finish with nice, grippy tannins. A complex Shiraz with many layers but very chic.
Pair with lamb, grilled meats, barbecued foods, game birds, and medium to sharp cheeses. A strong 94 point rating! This was the 2008 vintage but more recent vintages are just as good.
