Newton Napa Valley Unfiltered Chardonnay 2011
Caution: Addicting Chardonnay Ahead! You now have fair warning before proceeding through the sensual flavors of this wine. In the glass, straw colored with a golden hue. Aroma’s of dried apricot, tangerine, citrus blossom, and hints of honeysuckle. Full bodied across the palate, silky, with medium acidity. Rich flavors of ripe apricot, white peach, tropical fruit, with notes of fig and honey. So promiscuous and teasing with layers of flavors that entice the senses! On the second sip, flavors of pineapple, pear, and sweet butterscotch lead to a long, creamy oak finish. Beautifully complex, intense, and powerful, yet playful. A perfect balance of flavors but not overdone. Pair with steamed lobster with lemon-garlic butter, mushroom risotto, chicken alfredo, clam chowder, and soft to medium cheeses. 95 Points! Drink the 2011 vintage in 2016. 2012 and 2013 are still available and will age through 2018. Average of $45 a bottle. WineSplashing!!
Newton was one of my first oaked Chardonnays that I loved. Consumed at a restaurant, I returned several months later for the wine more than the food. Alas, they were out of Newton. Nice to know that they’re still making good stuff.
