Wine Review: 2009 Rioja Vega Red

We are told that this lovely spanish red is 75% Tempranillo and 25% Garnacha. The Tempranillo really stood out and made this a nice, flavorful wine. Dark ruby in color with aroma’s of ripe cherry and spice. On the palate, it is loaded with flavors of lush black cherries, currants, and spice. It is medium in body but is rich with a long intense finish! As Wilfred Wong has said “This is a stick-to-your-ribs red wine”! Perfect wine to pair with most any spicy red meat. Barbecue chicken or pork, pasta with a tomato based sauce, or spicy eggplant pilaf.

We really enjoyed this wine and want to try some of the other varieties of Rioja Vega like the Rioja Vega Crianza or Rioja Vega Reserva. On our SiNoTas scale, we give this 2009 Rioja Vega red wine an A-. Or an 88 point rating for you numbers people. đŸ™‚  Great flavors, zesty, with a long intense finish! An all for under $12 a bottle (when we purchased it). If you have a 2009, you can drink this now or cellar it up to a year more til the end of 2013. Winesplashing!
